Bendcrete Caving Systems |
||
| Bendcrete designed and built the UK's first ever realistic artificial cave system at Herts Young Mariners in 1997. The tunnels are designed in inter-linked circuits which give the impression of a much larger cave system. Features found within the system include stalactites and stalagmites, water courses, level changes, vertical descent or ascent, squeezes, phreatic tubes, as well as fossils and examples of early cave paintings. It provides the opportunity to practice caving techniques, including SRT, in a safe environment. |

| The cave system is an ideal platform for the adventure and management training schemes run by the centre. It is also used by emergency services such as the Fire Brigade and Cave Rescue to teach and develop search and rescue techniques. It has also featured on television programmes including the BBC's long running drama Grange Hill. |
